About

After graduating as a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Scranton in 2011, Vanessa Carlson practiced PT until she saved up enough money to open her first gym, a kickboxing franchise in SC, which she and her husband opened in 2014. After 1 year, their gym was in the top 5% in revenue for that franchise model. The following year in 2016 however, Planet Fitness along with other stiff competition from rival gyms brought revenues to a low which forced them to walk away with nothing.

An angel investor helped them get out of their 10-year franchise agreement and move to Ohio where they took over a women’s fitness brand, Ladies Super Fitness, to focus on the a demographic that is often looked over. Their ministry, LSF, became a success after a year of introduction to the community and so opened a second location in 2019 with the help of their investor - 6 months before the pandemic.

Six months pregnant and not willing to lose all she had accomplished, Vanessa created Facebook live videos for both gyms so the members wouldn’t quit. That birthed the idea for Hey Fit Mom. Armed with her husband, a marketer intern that LSF was employing, her husband’s brother (a videographer in the Airforce), and her husband, she gave live workouts to the members in the morning and filmed for Hey Fit Mo in the afternoon - 2 workouts a day for a pregnant woman. It took off as many pregnant women don’t have a lot of resources for exercise online. When the gyms opened back up 70 days later, it was a post pandemic world. People decided to stay in-doors and the online community for Hey Fit Mom was birthed.
